SYDNEY – In a stunning display of grit and determination, former police officer Tiara Brown has claimed the WBC world featherweight championship, defeating Australia's Skye Nicolson in a thrilling split-decision victory. The intense 10-round contest saw judges score the fight 97-93 and 96-94 in favor of Brown, with one judge scoring it 96-94 for Nicolson. This defeat marked the first professional loss for Nicolson, an Australian fighter who was heavily favored going into the fight. Brown now holds a record of 19-0. While Nicolson falls to 12-1.
"It's been 20-plus years of wanting this moment," Brown said in a ringside interview with DAZN. She gave a shoutout to her hometown of Fort Myers and gave thanks for her faith.
Brown also coaches young boxers through the Fort Myers police athletic league, showing her continued dedication to her community.
When asked about her future plans, the new champion said she was focused on celebrating her victory. “I like my options, my options are good, (but) right now I just want to go home and eat some cupcakes and some cookies and watch some cartoons,” Brown stated.
