Police Officer Killed in Pennsylvania Hospital Shooting

A tragic shooting incident at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, has resulted in the death of a police officer and the gunman. The officer, identified as Andrew Duarte of the West York Borough Police Department, responded to the incident at approximately 11 a.m. ET Saturday. It was reported that three officers were shot at the scene and the shooter was down. At least three hospital staff were also struck by gunfire and are reportedly in stable condition. 

Officer Duarte, a law enforcement veteran, joined the West York Borough Police Department in 2022 after serving five years with the Denver Police Department in Colorado. He was known for his dedication and commitment to serving his community.

The shooting occurred earlier today, and the situation was quickly contained by law enforcement. Hospital officials have confirmed that no patients were injured during the incident. The gunman, who is identified as Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz, was also killed in the exchange.  No motive has been released.

The community is mourning the loss of Officer Duarte, and flags are being flown at half-staff in his honor. The West York Borough Police Department has expressed their condolences to Officer Duarte's family and colleagues, stating that "we all have broken hearts and are grieving at his loss."

An investigation into the shooting is underway, and authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack.
