Texas State Trooper Tragically Killed Investigating Accident

Odessa, Texas – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is mourning the loss of Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle while investigating a crash on September 17, 2024.

Trooper Vasquez, a recent graduate of the Texas DPS Academy and a U.S. Army veteran, was assisting at a traffic accident scene on State Highway 302 when he was struck by a passing vehicle. He was immediately transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas and later airlifted to a Lubbock area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community and the entire state of Texas. Trooper Vasquez was known for his dedication to service and his unwavering commitment to protecting the public. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.

The Texas DPS is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident. The driver of the vehicle that struck Trooper Vasquez has been identified and is cooperating with authorities.

Trooper Vasquez is the 241st DPS officer to die in the line of duty since 1823.
