St. Louis Metro Officer Killed Working Vehicle Accident

St. Louis, MO - September 22, 2024

In a heartbreaking incident early Sunday morning, a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Officer was killed while working a motor vehicle accident. Officer David Lee an 18 year veteran of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department was struck and killed while on duty. The accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 70 near Grand Blvd.  Officer Lee was setting up a flare line on the freeway to protect the scene of a prior accident. As Officer Lee was laying the flares, he was critically injured when a vehicle struck him around 9 a.m. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries later this afternoon. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department expressed their deep sorrow in a statement: "We are devastated over the loss of our beloved colleague. Please pray for Officer Lee’s family, friends, and the entire St.Louis Metro Police Department family."

Officer Lee was known for his dedication and service to the community. Colleagues and friends remember him as a committed officer who always went above and beyond in his duties. His loss is a significant blow to the department and the community he served.

This tragic event underscores the dangers that law enforcement officers face daily while protecting and serving their communities. Officer Lee’s sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
