Shooting Leaves 4 Dead, 18 injured in Birmingham

Birmingham, AL - September 22, 2024

In a tragic incident overnight, a mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, has left four people dead and at least 18 others injured. The shooting occurred in the bustling Five Points South neighborhood, a popular nightlife district in the city.

According to Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond, multiple suspects arrived in a vehicle, exited, and began firing into a crowd of people before fleeing the scene. The attack happened just after 11 p.m. on Saturday night.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, they found two men and one woman unresponsive on the sidewalk, these three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth victim succumbed to their injuries at a nearby hospital. Many other victims were transported to various hospitals, at least four other individuals are reported to have life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people running and screaming as shots rang out.

Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated that the shooters targeted people who were out in the open, either on the sidewalk or the street. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, no suspects are in custody at this time. The Birmingham Police Department has requested assistance from the FBI and ATF in the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as officials vow to bring those responsible to justice.
