BUTLER, Pa. — Former President Donald Trump was rushed off the stage just minutes into his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday after gunshots were heard and he was struck in the side of his face by a bullet. The Secret Service swiftly responded to ensure his safety. Fortunately, the shooter was immediately neutralized by a Secret Service sniper. Tragically, one rally attendee in the audience was also killed.

It has been 43 years since the last assassination attempt on an American President on U.S. soil. After President Reagan was shot in 1981, many believed we would never witness an act of domestic terror of this magnitude again. Unfortunately, the current divisive political climate, fueled by social media, has incited violence to an unprecedented degree. This moment in history serves as a stark reminder that America must stand united against extremism and the hateful voices that seek to divide us.

The National Fallen Officer Foundation condemns violence in all forms against our civil society. We believe that the freedom of assembly and freedom of speech are the bedrocks of American democracy. There should never be violence against any party or political figure because of contrasting beliefs. We thank God that former President Trump was not more seriously injured. We also extend our deepest condolences to all innocent patrons who were injured during this unfortunate ordeal.

The National Fallen Officer Foundation stands in solidarity with all Americans committed to peace, unity, and the preservation of our American values. This incident underscores the importance of robust security measures to mitigate risks for our political leaders and exemplifies the bravery of those who put their lives on the line to protect our leaders and citizens.

We pray for President Trump and his family, as well as for the families of those impacted by this tragic event. Together, we will rise from this tragedy.
