Harris County Deputy Constable Fatally Shot on Way to Work

Houston, TX – Tragedy struck Harris County today as Deputy Constable Maher Husseini was fatally shot while driving to work. The incident occurred at the intersection of Fondren Road and Richmond Avenue near the Westpark Tollway around 12:35 p.m. Deputy Husseni, who served with the Precinct 4 Constable's Officer, was stopped at a traffic light when a man approached his vehicle and fired multiple shots.

Houston Chief of Police Noe Diaz reported that Deputy Husseini was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, described as a Middle Eastern male between 35 and 40 years of age, fled the scene in a charcoal gray Chevy Impala. The suspect was later spotted in the League City area and led police on a brief vehicle pursuit. The suspect, in an attempt to evade police, drove his vehicle into Galveston Bay, near the Galveston causeway. Nearby boats responded to the scene to help pull the suspect out of the water. The suspect is now in police custody. 

Authorities are actively investigating the shooting and are seeking surveillance footage.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed his condolences, stating, "The hearts of Texans are breaking today with the news that Harris County Deputy Constable Maher Husseini was shot and killed while on his way to work.

Deputy Husseini, who had been with the Precinct 4 Constable’s Office since 2021, leaves behind two children, ages 12 and 15. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated officer who served with distinction and commitment.
